Finding Your Diet Pill
Nobody wants to admit that they take a diet pill. As a nurse I was always skeptical about supplements and how people believed they could fix their problems. Alternative medicines, weight loss pills, and supplemental herbs were all things that the other nurses and I always laughed about. We always wondered why people would waste their money on such products. On top of that certain supplements seemed dangerous and harmful for some people to take.
It wasn’t until I became desperate to lose weight that I started to consider a weight loss supplement. I was not over weight enough to get a prescription medication but I was overweight enough to be ashammed and unhealthy. The reason I decided to try a weight loss supplement was becasue it just seemed like nothing else was working. I didn’t have the time work out as much as I would have liked to and it was difficult to always find healthy food to eat all of the time. I also had a real hard time controling my appetite.
After being denied a prescription medication, I decided to do some research into over the counter diet pills. I started my search by looking at weight loss pills and looking at the ingredients found in them. After I looked at the ingredients of the diet pill I would look up research articles about each specific ingredient. I was surprised to find a number of natural ingredients that had shown significant results in improving metabolism, appetite, cholesterole, lean muscle, and blood sugar levels. Once I found a number of ingredients that I liked and wanted to try I started to look for diet pills that contained them. I found a few weight loss supplements that contained a number of the ingredients I was looking for and picked the one that seemed to come from the most trusted company.
I started out taking about half the amount that was recommended on the bottle to see how my body would react. Luckily for me there was little to no side effects. The main thing I had to worry about was not taking any after 6:00 p.m. so that I could sleep. I noticed right away that the supplement helped reduce hunger. I wouldn’t last all day but it helped me get to my next meal. Another thing that I noticed was increase in energy.
I was disappointed after the first week of taking the weight loss pill to see that I had only lost 1lb. But being happy with the increase in energy and the decrease of hunger between meals I continued with my supplement. By the end of the third week I had dropped 4lbs and by the fourth week I had lost 6lbs. Even though this doesn’t sound like much especially compared to some of the promises made by diet pill companies I was excited. I hadn’t gone any where but up over the last 7 years with my weight and it was good to see a change.
After taking the diet pill for two months I had lost a total of 14 lbs. My blood pressure had also dropped by 15 points. I hadn’t changed much with my workout routine or my diet, although I did feel like I was eating less and working out harder possibly due to the diet pill. At the end of the two months I decided to stop taking the diet pill and give my body a break. As a nurse I know that you don’t want to become dependant on a supplement and I knew that our bodies will eventually adjust to whatever we are taking. After stopping the diet pill I gained back a little weight (3lbs).
I now have a cycle that I follow to help me keep losing weight and hold back the pounds. I try and only use a weight loss supplement 4 months out of the year. This way I am not putting too much stuff into my body and my kidneys and liver are given a break. I hope to someday never use supplements other than vitamins, but for know while I don’t have much time on my hands to exercise and eat all that healthy I will keep using them.
